Haunchwood United Under 14’s league gold league winners!!!!!!
Everyone at Hauncwood is super proud of you all and the post by Coach Colin on Social media says it better than we ever could......
What an unbelievable day its been
As many will know, the girls won the league today but I'd like to tell a story on how we got to this point.
It's no secret that I started the girls section 7 years ago, I had just 2 girls at that session and I was new to coaching, I was very nervous that day! It was a wet and cold April Saturday morning and I honestly thought this is tough and it's not going to work, this went on over the next few weeks and then it clicked, I was competing with dancing. I then switched to a Friday and the section grew and grew, I then started to believe in myself and delivered sessions to many girls which was all fun and inclusive, ability never mattered.

We had a few teams start the season, against boys in the Nuneaton and Bedworth league, it was tough but the girls got so much from it, it was a success because girls were playing football. The second summer saw a second team formed and we both went into the Leicester girls league and both have flitted between the top 2 tiers over the years. We have lost many games over the years. Today's squad had 8 players out of 17 who helped start this journey, as the seasons went on, the players got added and another 6 players this summer will receive a 5 year award at Haunchwood, the other 3 have been with us now, for over 2 seasons.
This shows the dedication from the girls and coaches that we are together as one. I would like to point out, in developing the player, we played equal game time and stuck with the core principles of making it fun but also being educational. The players were loyal to us and we were loyal to them and to keep the girls going we created Haunchwood United last summer, we pulled both teams together and tried to give them the chance to carry on playing a game they love.
Today's league win is for every coach, who believes in development, not kicking kids out because they aren't good enough. It's for loyalty and being consistent in the process. I didn't win a league today, the girls did. The coaches I have worked have been amazing, you deserve the credits.
The photos I've posted are what it means to be apart of something, it's having a place and the process won today.
7 years of hard work won today and I couldn't be prouder
Thank you girls, you are amazing.
No Colin - thank you - thank you for getting the girls division started and gettting the girls to top of the shop! Take a bow each and every one of you.
