At the weekend the Haunchwood sports junior football club Galaxy girls made the longest trip of the season to Melton Mowbray to face Asfordby after a venue and kick off time change due to standing water on their home venue. A massive thanks to them for getting the game on.
Both teams started a little wasteful with a lot of rushed passes and turnovers meaning no team was able to get a hold on the game. It was Asfordby who threatened early on and after 12 minutes their forward broke beyond the defence and rounded TT in the galaxy goal, the defenders recovered however and Izzy B came away from the goal line with the ball.
Asfordby took the lead on 20 minutes. As the girls tried to play out of defence after a goal kick the Asfordby forward intercepted and hit a trike from the edge of the box high into the goal. TT managed to get a hand to it but not enough to keep the ball out.

The Galaxy girls had got into good positions up to that point but we're unable to create any clear chances and a some rushed efforts weren't enough to result in anything.
The girls did start to apply some pressure and gained 3 successive corners. The third of which resulted in a chance as the ball fell to Cerys but her shot was unable to trouble the Asfordby goal.
Immy proved a constant threat to the home defence, getting into some good positions or working shooting chances but unable to turn those into goals. A free kick dropped to Mimi in the 6 yard box but her touch took the ball away from her and she couldn't get a shot off.
Me final chance in the first half fell right on half time where Mimi shot straight at the keeper who played very well in the Asfordby goal.
The second half was similar with Asfordby offering chances when they had possession and Galaxy wasteful of possession and chances.
Asfordby nearly doubled their lead when a bit of hot potato resulted in the ball bobbling to a home player who had a shot at goal. The shot hit the post and rebounded off Bobbi in goal and then out for a corner. The coaches all looking and wondering how the ball managed to stay out.
The home side did double their lead, again after the Galaxy's thought they'd cleared the ball only for it to drop to an Asfordby player who hit a speculative effort that eluded Bobbi in the goal.
Haunchwood Galaxy girls continued to try and apply pressure, though sometimes without the urgency we wanted. More chances created saw Immy go through and saw her shot saved. From the resulting corner a oerfect short corner saw the ball drop again to Immy but she was unable to divert the ball on target. A high press from a goal kick saw the ball drop to Mimi about 20 yards out and she hit a great strike over the home keeper to get us back into the game with only 5 minutes left.
During the later stages we still managed to create chances but were unable to get the goal to earn a point and we went down to a 2-1 defeat.
The coaches were left a little frustrated because despite the girls not having their greatest game we feel there were still enough chances in the game to have won it. We learn and move on to the next game which is home to Daventry Town.
