Yesterday the girls travelled away to Albert Village Tigermoths in what can only be described as almost biblical weather conditions. The pitch was in good condition with only a small amount of standing water in one goalmouth, but that was just war paint for Bobbi!
The instructions were simple for the girls, go out forget about the rain and work harder than the opposition. Albert Village worked equally hard but the Haunchwood sports junior football club Galaxy Girls put in every ounce of energy they had and ran out winners in the end.
The game was evenly contested right from the start. Both teams trying to play good football considering the conditions but both teams also unable to capitalise on early chances the best of which to or Galaxy's came from a free kick on the edge of the box early on but failed to test the keeper.
Galaxy girls did go ahead in the 9th minute when a shot from the edge of the box was spilled by the home keeper allowing Evie to nip in and poke the ball home.
Bobbi was coping well with the conditions in the Haunchwood goal and the defensive trio expertly marshalling the Albert Village front line and special me tion to Amelia who worked her socks off as we went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The weather worsened at half time and we were on alert for storms that were in the Leicestershire area but never got near us, thankfully.

The girls stepped it up a gear and got in behind the home defence more in the second half. Millie having a couple of efforts with really clean hit but just off target.
Galaxy's doubled their lead on 44 minutes after a bit of sustained pressure. With numbers up just after a corner Albert Village tried to clear the ball and Layla nipped in just outside the box and hit a speculative effort which flew past the keeper and into the net.
The 2 goal lead was short-lived though as in the 50th minute the Tigermoths got in behind the Galaxy defence who recovered but failed to clear the ball and the home forward prodded past Bobbi as she came to close her down.
The lead was very quickly restored as neat play down the right sent Mimi clear. Her powerful cross was met by Phoebe around the penalty spot with a side fitted volley on the run which rocketed past the keeper who had no chance of stopping the ball.
As the game continued it seems like the Galaxy girls were more likely to add to their score but unfortunately failed to do so.

All in all a fantastic effort from all of the girls, some really solid defending and positively playing the ball out with confidence as the girls become more and more familiar with 11 a-side football and the use of the spaces on the pitch. The parents nominated Izzy B as girl of the game for her no nonsense defence and calmness on the ball.
The girls travel to GNG next Sunday and hopefully the conditions will resemble something more like September than January.
